PRE-ORDER: Yellow-eye Rockfish - 5 lbs

$105.00
sold out

Available in 5 lb shares. Caught by hook and line using the “dinglebar” method on Kat and Luke’s boat the F/V Aloma, blast-frozen and vacuum packed in approximately 1 lb packs.

Yellow-eye Rockfish is a special fish that really stands out from the other rockfish species . It has a firm texture and a slightly sweet taste, reminiscent of crab meat. I love baking rockfish in the oven with salsa and eating it with a side of rice, or throwing it into a taco. It also makes delicious ceviche.

There is currently no directed fishery for rockfish. We catch yellow eye when we dinglebar for lingcod, (Click the link for a full explanation, and refer to the diagram in the photos section for a visual as to how this is done). Our lingcod fishery is managed closely. We check in with the biologist daily and fill out a logbook, which includes recording our bycatch for the day. We are required by law to keep our bycatch and deliver it.

The amount of yellow-eye rockfish we are allowed to keep to sell to the consumer is calculated based on the total round weight of our lingcod, then we take 10% of that weight and that determines the total rockfish weight we are allowed to retain for sales. The rest is strictly for personal use only. It is managed this way because it allows the biologists to collect necessary data and not incentivize people to target bycatch species.

Therefore, I have a very limited supply of yellow-eye to share with you all!
